Ben, Hunter and I have our first Christmas alone this year, and so for the first time we are able to do what we want for Christmas.  Its never happened before and it might not happen again for a while... So we are planning on making it as special as we can...

I've wrestled with the concept of Christmas for quite a few years now.  My wrestling started with the whole commercialism of Christmas - which pretty much disgusts me.  And then it continued because as we aren't Christians, how do we meaningfully celebrate a Christian festival without believing in the religion... hmmm... My favourite 5 year old friend said to me last week - Christmas is for remembering Jesus.  Which is cool too. He was a pretty amazing man.  And this time of year is also a pagan festival and in Britain is the darkest time of the year...  So festivities, fire, warmth and good food are welcome.  Its a good time to settle back and relax, think about the passing year and look forward to the new year. Janus would be proud of my fireplace - that I finally got working... All I need now is to finish work for the year...(only 5 days to go), open some wine and cuddle up with my family by the fire.

Which brings me to my question... What are your Christmas traditions?

Our Christmas Tradition was to relax. None of us would dressed up, everyone wore their Christmas pajamas & slippers. We read books, feasted on a meal we all helped prepare, & watched movies together " The Christmas Story" was a favorite. We danced (some of us, not well), but then you get us all together & if music is playing we all like to get up & shake our bountiful booties.

Now the kids have all grown up & moved far away, so my NEW tradition is NOT to travel during the Christmas holiday 'cause I hate being stranded (snowed in) & because that way I don't play favorites.

I relax by staying close to home & baking. Mexican hot chocolate is nice too.
